This excellent overview of 20th-century American sculpture offers a rare opportunity for art lovers, history enthusiasts, and armchair travelers to visit an intimate garden that adjoins the most famous house in America.
Since 1994, the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden at the White House has hosted eight exhibitions, featuring sculpture by Isamu Noguchi, Georgia O'Keeffe, Alexander Calder, Allan Houser, Martin Puryear, and many other outstanding artists. Each show was curated by a major American museum and photographed by David Finn to create a lasting record. Those striking images, together with Finn's notes about each work, may now be enjoyed in this book.
A foreword by Hillary Rodham Clinton describes the inception of the idea for the exhibitions, and an introduction by White House curator Betty C. Monkman details the history of the gracious Jacqueline Kennedy Garden.
DAVID FINN has photo-graphed and written extensively about such sculptors as Canova, Benvenuto Cellini, Henry Moore, and Marino Marini. A founding partner of the public relations firm Ruder$Finn, he is based in New York.
BETTY C. MONKMAN, curator of the White House, has contributed to several books, including Abrams' Official White House China.

미국의 정치인. 1947년 시카고에서 태어났다. 웰즐리 대학교와 예일 대학교 로스쿨을 졸업했으며 로스쿨 재학 중 훗날 배우자가 되는 빌 클린턴을 만났다. 1975년 결혼, 1980년 딸 첼시를 낳은 후에도 일을 그만두지 않고 법률가로서 활발하게 활동하다가 1982년부터 남편의 정치 활동을 적극적으로 지원하기 시작했다. 1993년 빌이 대통령에 취임하자 힐러리는 영부인 집무실을 이스트윙이 아닌 대통령과 같은 웨스트윙으로 옮기고 유례없는 영향력을 발휘했다. 이후 뉴욕주 상원 의원, 오바마 행정부의 국무 장관 등을 역임했다. 2016년 민주당 소속으로 대권에 도전해 미국 역사상 최초로 주요 정당의 여성 대선 후보가 되기도 했다. 현재는 북아일랜드 명문 퀸스 대학교 벨파스트의 총장으로 재직 중이다.
