책소개
Focusing on the practice of archaeology rather than on findings about the Middle Ages, scholars from across Europe bring together in a single volume the research of scholars working on a wide variety of archeological problems in Europe from the collapse of the Western Roman Empire in the fifth century to the beginning of the modern age about 1500. Several entries also consider the Iron Age background to medieval society. The geographical range spans from Poland to Iceland and from southern Italy to northern Scandinavia, and with the exception of an entry on important excavations in Novgorod, Russian, the coverage is limited to the Latin west.
