책소개

Mostly building on his doctoral dissertation in economics for the European University Institute, Zhou (agricultural economics, U. of Florence, Italy) first sets out economic theories of sustainable development in relation to practical issues. He finds the final obstacle to sustainable rural development to be decreasing parcel size and increased fragmentation of land due to population growth, and the inefficient use of land by party-time and absent small farmers. In that context, he then analyzes the significance of the Japanese model, a new model, and the Chinese model, and explores applications of the new model beyond monsoon Asia. Annotation c.
