1934년 처음으로 개별지도 교수인 C. S. 루이스와 만나 스승과 제자로 인연을 맺은 조지 세이어는 처음 몇 년간은 교수와 제자의 형식적인 관계로 지냈으나, 어느 날 우연히 조지 맥도널드의 책을 매개로 두 사람이 마음 문을 열게 되었고, 이후 친구 관계로 발전하게 되었다. 같은 영문학을 전공한 선후배로서 함께 산책하며 문학토론을 했고, 조지 세이어가 결혼해서 몰번에 사는 동안, 루이스는 정기적으로 세이어 부부를 방문해 함께 시간을 보내며 루이스가 세상을 떠나기까지 깊은 우정을 나눴다. 옥스퍼드 모들린 칼리지에서 영문학을 공부했으며 1974년 은퇴할 때까지 우스터셔의 몰번 칼리지 영문과 과장으로 지냈다. 2005년 작고.
