스티븐 스트로가츠(지은이)
미국의 수학자이자 작가. 1959년생으로 프린스턴대학교에서 수학 학사과정을 마쳤으며, 케임브리지 트리니티칼리지를 거쳐 하버드대학교에서 응용수학 박사학위를 받았다. 그 후 MIT에서 수학 교수로 근무하다가 1994년 코넬대학교로 옮겨 현재 석좌교수로 재직하고 있다. 카오스와 복잡계 이론 분야에서 뛰어난 업적을 남겼으며, 세계에서 가장 많이 인용되는 수학자 중 한 명이다. MIT, 프린스턴, 케임브리지 등 여러 대학에서 우수 강의상을 받았고, 수학을 일반인들에게 효과적으로 전달한 공로로 미국수학협회, 수학정책공동위원회, 미국과학진흥위원회 등에서 다수의 상을 수상했다. 저서로는 《동시성의 과학, 싱크》, 《X의 즐거움》, 《미적분의 힘》 등이 있다.
