Fundamentals of Media Effects is a readable scholarly text geared to undergraduate students in the media effects course.
The book is divided into three sections. Section 1, Overview and History, provides historical evidence for media effects and for societal concern about media effects. Section 2, Theory and Concepts, includes the concepts and theories that serve as the basis for different types of media effects research. The final section, Section 3, Key Areas of Research, delves into the specific areas of inquiry.

제닝스 브라이언트(지은이)
앨라배마 대학교(UA) 명예 석좌 교수를 지냈다. 2010년 은퇴하기 전에는 CIS 석좌 연구 교수, 레이건 방송 기부 석좌 교수(Reagan Endowed Chair of Broadcasting), UA 커뮤니케이션 및 정보과학대학 대학원 연구 및 조사 부학장을 역임했다. 2008년에는 대학의 버넘 공로 교수상(Burnum Distinguished Faculty Award)을, 2000년에는 블랙몬무디 우수 교수상(BlackmonMoody Outstanding Professor Award)을 수상했으며 2002~2003년에는 국제 커뮤니케이션 협회(ICA: International Communication Association) 회장을 역임했다. 2006년에는 방송교육협회(Broadcast Education Association)로부터 저명 학자상(Distinguished Scholar Award)을 수상했고, 국제 커뮤니케이션 협회 펠로우(Fellow)로 선출되었으며, 그를 기리는 연구 개척자 헌정 에세이(Research Pioneer Tribute Essay)가 《방송 및 전자 미디어 저널(Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media)》에 게재되었다(“Jennings Bryant-The ‘Complete’ Scholar”). 2011년에는 ICA로부터 스티븐 채피 생애 생산성상(Steven Chaffee Career Productivity Award)을 수상했다. 브라이언트는 2018년 앨라배마 대학교 커뮤니케이션 및 정보과학 대학(College of Communication and Information Sciences) 명예의 전당(Hall of Fame)에 헌액되었다. 그는 12권으로 구성된 『국제 커뮤니케이션 백과사전(International Encyclopedia of Communication)』의 자문 편집자였다. 브라이언트는 커뮤니케이션 분야에서 20여 권의 학술 서적 또는 교재를 저술하거나 편집했다. 또한 160여 편의 학술지 논문과 250여 편의 학회 논문을 발표했다.
