책소개
The idea of the "mass mind" has been central to psychology and media studies, for example in debates about the extraordinary public reaction to Princess Diana's death or about the power of television and the popular press to influence opinion. Blackman (media and communication studies, Goldsmiths College, London) and Walkerdine (critical psychology, U. of Western Sidney Nepean) draw on post-structuralism, discursive psychology, post-colonial theory, and feminism to examine the social, political, theoretical, and historical conditions that have led to the problem of the media being posed as a problem of the "mass mind." They include case studies involving figures such as Princess Diana and British murderers Fred and Rosemary West. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
