This update of the classic of the 1980s examines the relationship of neuroscience for design into environmental-behavior (E-B) methods and approaches. Practitioner and academic Zeisel examines a dozen case studies to show how E-B was successful in creating buildings and spaces through basic research, employment of E-B interventions in design, programming, evidence-based design, post-occupancy evaluation and improved designs. He describes the reasons for describing design, the characteristics of designing, developing concepts of research, formulating hypotheses, and conducting empirical testing, and the processes of cooperation in research and design. He describes approaches and settings in research methodology, controlling research quality, and using the brain's environmental system. After this introduction Zeisel describes research methods such as observing physical traces and environmental behavior, conducting focused interviews and standardized questionnaires, asking questions, compiling archives, and relating the work to E-B concepts.
