Reviews
"This is by far the best edition of this book since section editors have made certain that each chapter is current and follows the same format of therapeutic overview, mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics, relation of mechanisms of action to clinical response, pharmacovigilance (side effects, clinical problems, and toxicity), and new horizons. The focus is on prototypic drugs with ample use of tables and boxes to provide valuable summaries of how important clinical drugs differ from the prototypic drugs described in detail.
The multicolored figures are both attractive and informative. Each chapter ends with a short, relevant, up-to-date further reading list and a few self-assessment questions. The questions highlight key concepts and drugs covered in the chapter, but are not of the style or complexity of questions currently used on USMLE examinations. Excellent descriptive answers to the self-assessment questions are provided in the appendix. Buyers are also provided with a PIN number for a Student Consult web site which includes complete contents of the book online plus multiple choice questions with feedback as well as other learning enrichments.
This edition is a markedly improved book that rivals Basic and Clinical Pharmacology, 10th edition, by Katzung (McGraw-Hill, 2007), as a leading pharmacology textbook for teaching pharmacology to health professionals. I highly recommend this fifth edition for adoption." - Thomas L. Pazdernik, PhD (University of Kansas Medical Center), from Doody’s Reviews
