It has been said that Peter Eisenman considers architecture a form of shock therapy; whatever his intent, Peter Eisenman has indeed created one of the most controversial bodies of work of any contemporary American architect. Eisenman's architecture, along with the complex, genre-straddling theories upon which it is built, is active and polemical, and his buildings--whether executed or not--are ingenious essays on the way humans and inert materials occupy and control space. 피터 아이젠만(지은이)

1932년 뉴욕 뉴저지(New Jersey)주 뉴어크(Newark)에서 태어났다. 1960년 콜롬비아대학원에서 도시계획 석사학위를 취득했다. 1962년 케임브리지대학교에서 석사, 1963년에는 박사학위를 취득했다. 케임브리지대학교, 프린스턴대학교, 쿠퍼유니온, 메릴랜드대학교에서 교수를 지냈다. 1980년대에 들어서는 현대 건축의 흐름을 주도하는 대표적인 건축가로서 명성을 얻었으며 현재 뉴욕의 아이젠만 건축사무소의 대표이다. 오하이오주립대학교 웩스너 예술 센터와 베를린의 유럽 유대인 학살 기념관은 미국 건축가 협회가 선정한 National Honor Awards of Design을 수상했다.
