에드워드 콘즈(지은이)
독일 쾰른대학에서 철학박사 학위를 받고 본대학과 함부르크 대학에서 박사후 연수 과정을 마쳤다. 1933년 히틀러 집권 시기에 영국으로 돌아와 1960년까지 근 30년 동안 옥스퍼드와 런던 대학에서 심리학, 비교 종교학, 철학을 가르쳤다. 전 생애에 걸친 고전적 불교 경전 교재들의 번역과 해설 그리고 보급 활동은 그의 업적의 보증 마크였다. 대표적 저술로는 『불교』Buddhism(1951), 선집 『불교 경전들』Buddhist Scriptures (1959), 『불교연구 30년』Thirty Years of Buddhist Studies (1967) 『인도불교사상사』(1988) 등이 있다.
