라이언 스미스(엮은이)
라이언과 킴은 부부이다. 남편인 라이언은 어린 시절 만화책과 공포소설 그리고 그리스 신화를 좋아했으며, 현재는 고등학교 영어 선생님이다. 부인인 킴은 영어 학사 학위와 인간 발달과 상담이라는 두 개의 석사 학위를 가지고 있다. 어릴 때부터 사람들을 도와주고 돌보는 일에 관심이 많았던 킴은 외과 전공의의 서기로 일하고 있다. 이 부부는 한때 둘이 합해 227kg까지 나가기도 했으나 간헐적 단식을 통해 두 명 합산 98kg을 감량하는 데 성공하면서 그들의 경험을 다른 이들에게 나누는 일에 앞장서고 있다.
