About the Author
?Rinko Kawauchi (born in Shiga, Japan, 1972) studied graphic design and photography at Seian University of Art and Design, Otsu, Japan. She has published over twenty-five books of her work, including Hanako, Utatane, and Hanabi, a trio of “first books” published simultaneously in 2001. Her work is collected and exhibited widely, and she won a Kimura Ihei Photography Award (2002) and International Center of Photography Infinity Award in Art (2009); and was shortlisted for the Deutsche Borse Photography Prize (2012). Kawauchi lives and works in Tokyo.David Chandler is professor of photography at the University of Plymouth, UK. He has held various curatorial roles in museums and galleries, including at the National Portrait Gallery, London (1982?88) and Photographers’ Gallery, London (1988?95); and as the director of Photoworks in Brighton, UK (1997￢?2010).
Lesley A. Martin is creative director of Aperture Foundation and publisher of The PhotoBook Review.
Masatake Shinohara is associate professor at Kyoto University, with a primary focus on contemporary philosophy, environmental humanities, architecture, and art. In 2016, he served as cocurator of the Japan Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale.

1972년 일본 시가현 출생으로 현재 도쿄에 거주하며 작품활동을 한다. 2002년 <UTATANE>, <HANABI>(Little More, 2001) 2권의 사진집으로 제27회 기무라 이헤이상을 수상하였다. 주요 사진집으로<AILA>(Foil, 2004), <the eyes, the ears,>, <Cui Cui>(Foil, 2005) 등이 있으며, <Illuminance>를 세계 5개국에서 동시출판, <Ametsuchi>를 세계 4개국에서 간행하였다. 주요 개인전으로 <The river embraced me>(구마모토시 현대미술관, 구마모토, 2016), <Illuminance, Ametsuchi, Seeing Shadow> (도쿄도 사진미술관, 도쿄, 2012), <Rinko Kawauchi-Illuminance>(KUNST HAUS WIEN GmbH, 비엔나, 2015), <AILA + Cui Cui + the eyes, the ears> (까르띠에재단미술관, 파리, 2005) 외 다수 개최하였으며, 주요 그룹전으로는 아를 국제 사진페스티벌 (2014, 아를), <브라이튼 포토비엔날레 2010>(2010, 브라이튼), <Bye Bye Kitty!!!
