Although the Korean and Peloponnesian wars were separated by centuries as well as by major cultural and technological differences, they also share similarities geographic, ideological, rhetorical, moral, and political. McCann (Harvard) and Strauss (Cornell) have gathered chapters that compare the dimensions of these two conflicts to shed light on issues such as why societies go to war, what happens when they do, and what factors make war occur or might lead to outcomes other than armed conflict. 데이비드 매캔(엮은이)
하버드대학교 한국학연구소장을 역임했고, 2012년 현재는 동대학 동아시아언어문화학과 교수로 한국문학을 가르치고 있다. 한국문학에 대한 깊이있는 연구와, 우리 시문학을 영어로 번역한 공로를 인정받아 문화관광부 보관문화훈장, 대산재단 번역대상, 학술부문 만해대상 등을 수상하였다. 미국의 중고등학생들을 대상으로 시조 창작대회를 열고, 한국문학 전문 연간지 『진달래』(Azalea)를 창간하는 등 한국문학을 널리 알리는 데 앞장서고 있다. 김소월, 서정주, 김지하, 고은, 김남조 등 빼어난 한국 시인들의 작품을 꾸준히 번역, 소개하고 있다. 시인으로도 활발히 창작 활동을 펼치고 있으며, 다수의 유수 문예지에 작품을 수록한 바 있다. 시집 『그대를 기다리는 방식』(The Way I Wait For You, Codhill Press 2007) 등이 있다.
