주제페 웅가레티(지은이)
이집트의 알렉산드라에서 태어났다. 그는 그 후 파리에서 살았으며 밀라노에서는 대학에서 불어를 가르치기도 했다. 브라질의 상파울로 대학에서 이탈리아 문학 교수로 봉직한 후 1942년에 다시 이탈리아로 돌아와 로마에서 교편을 잡았다. 그는 유럽작가연합의 회장을 역임했으며 콜럼비아 대학에서 초빙교수로 강의했다.
