토머스 L. 프리드먼(지은이)
퓰리처상을 세 차례나 수상한 세계에서 가장 영향력 있는 언론인 겸 작가. 「뉴욕타임스」를 대표하는 국제 분야 전문 칼럼니스트로, ‘세계화 전도사’, ‘그린 뉴딜 정책의 선구자’로 평가받았다. 또한 출간한 저서 대부분을 베스트셀러 목록에 올린 작가이다. 브랜다이스대학을 졸업하고 옥스퍼드대학(세인트 앤터니스 칼리지)에서 중동학 석사학위를 받았다. UPI통신 베이루트 특파원을 거쳐, 「뉴욕타임스」 베이루트 지국장, 예루살렘 지국장을 지냈고, 백악관 출입 기자를 역임했다. 베이루트와 예루살렘 지국장 시절 취재한 기사로 두 차례 퓰리처상을 받았으며 당시의 경험에 바탕한 이 책으로 ‘내셔널 북 어워드’를 수상했다. 9·11 테러 이후 세계정세의 변화를 명확하게 보여준 『경도와 태도』로 세 번째 퓰리처상을 수상했다. 그 외 저서로 『베이루트에서 예루살렘까지』 『코드 그린』 『렉서스와 올리브나무』 『미국 쇠망론』 『세계는 평평하다』 『늦어서 고마워』가 있다. 2024년 현재까지도 「뉴욕타임스」 소속으로서 중동 현안과 세계정세, 미국 내 시사를 주제로 무게감 있는 칼럼을 연재하고 있다.
