매사추세츠 공과대학교(MIT) 인간역동성 연구실과 MIT 미디어랩 창업 프로그램을 추진하고 있으며, 세계경제포럼의 빅데이터 및 개인정보 프로그램을 공동으로 이끌고 있다. 그는 학문 간 경계를 허물고 융합과 혁신을 강조하며 인간과 컴퓨터의 상호작용을 연구하는 ‘꿈의 연구소’ MIT 미디어랩의 중추적인 인물이다. 그는 아이디어와 정보의 흐름이 어떻게 인간의 행동 변화로 이어지는지 이해하는 사회물리학 프로젝트를 진행하며 학생들을 가르치고 있다. MIT 미디어랩과 인도 공과대학 미디어랩 아시아 연구소 설립에 참여했으며, 서른 개가 넘는 신생 기업을 출범시켰다. 2012년 포브스는 그를 세계에서 가장 영향력 있는 데이터 과학자로 선정했다.
