17세기 후반, 태양왕 루이 14세 때 꽃피기 시작한 베르사유 궁의 음악적 황금기는 루이 15세를 거쳐 루이 16세가 재임하던 18세기에도 계속되었다. 륄리와 샤르팡티에, 라모와 쿠프랭 뿐만 아니라 글룩과 하이든 등 당시 베르사유 궁에서 연주되었던 최고의 음악가들의 작품들과 참고 영상들을 적절하게 배치한 음악 다큐멘터리의 거장 올리비에 시모네 감독의 빼어난 연출력이 돋보이는 수작이다. 오늘날 가장 탁월한 바로크 음악 아티스트들의 흠잡을 데 없는 연주와 더불어 그들의 연주 모습을 보는 것만으로도 큰 만족감을 준다.
