마리코 타마키(지은이)
캐나다 온타리오 주 토론토에서 일본계 아버지와 유대계 어머니 사이에서 태어났다. 맥길대학에서 영문학을 전공했으며, 토론토에서 작가·예술가로 활동하고 있다. 2008년 사촌인 질리안 타마키와 함께 그래픽 노블 『스킴 Skim』을 발표해 좋은 반응을 얻었으며 2012년 성장소설 『넌 나를 깜짝 놀라게 해 (You) Set Me on Fire』를 비롯한 픽션과 논픽션을 여러 권 출간했다. 특히, 2014년 『그해 여름 This One Summer』을 발표해 칼데곳 상(Hornor Book), 마이클 프린츠 상(Honor Book), 이그나츠 상 등을 받았고, 아이스너 상, L.A. 타임스 상 등 여러 기관의 최우수상 최종 후보에 올랐다. 또한, 『타임스 매거진』, 『뉴욕 타임스』, 『키커스 리뷰』, 『퍼블리셔스 위클리』, 『학교 도서관 저널』 등 주요 언론 매체에서 2014년 최고의 책으로 선정됐으며, 미국도서관협회, 청소년도서관협회 등에서 교사들에게 추천하는 도서 목록에 포함되기도 했다. 그 밖의 작품으로 『Cover Me』(2000) 『True Lies: The Book of Bad Advice』(2000) 『Fake ID』(2005) 『Emiko Superstar』(2008) 등이 있으며, 자신이 직접 출연한 단편 영화 「행복한 열여섯 번째 생일 케빈」은 2013년 5월 토론토의 인사이드 아웃 영화제(Inside out Festival in Toronto)에 소개됐다. marikotamaki.blogspot.com
질리안 타마키(그림)
캐나다 토론토에 사는 일러스트레이터이자 그래픽노블 작가이자 교사이다. 그녀는 사촌인 마리코 타마키와 함께 그래픽노블 『그해 여름』을 펴내어 ‘칼데콧 아너상’을 수상했다. 혼자 쓰고 그린 첫 그림책 『세상은 색으로 가득해요』로 ‘보스턴글로브 혼북 상’을 수상한 데 이어, 두 번째 그림책 『우리들의 작은 부엌』으로 ‘아이스너 상’을 수상했다. 요리는 그럭저럭하지만 식재료를 썰거나 껍질 벗기는 것은 아주 잘한다고 한다. jilliantamaki.com
