도날드 J. 그라우트(지은이)

1960년에 『서양음악사』의 초판을 출판했다. 하버드 대학에서 박사 과정을 지낼 때부터 동 대학에서 음악교수로 재직했으며, 학위를 받은 뒤에는 텍사스 대학에서 교직에 종사했다. 이후 코넬 대학 창설 명예교수를 역임하는 등 미국 음악학계의 대가 중 한 명이었다. 다른 저서로는 『오페라의 짧은 역사 A Short History of Opera』(1947) 등이 있다. 1987년 타계했다.
