책소개
Peace and Conflict is a new biennial publication that provides key data and documents trends in national and international conflicts ranging from isolated acts of terrorism to internal civil strife to full-fledged intercountry war. A major trend it tracks is the steady decline of war, despite the ongoing conflict in Iraq. Long the authoritative source of information on a wide range of crisis measures, the University of Maryland s Center for International Development and Conflict Management brings voluminous data and sources together in Peace and Conflict. The backbone of each volume in the series is the Peace and Conflict Ledger, ranking the status and progress of 161 countries according to seven different peace-building indicators. Other key components include Global Trends in Violent Conflict, Global Trends in Democratization, and Self-Determination Movements and Outcomes. Each volume also includes special features based on major developments in recent years. For 2007, special topics will focus on mass civilian fatalities in conflict zones, trends in UN peacekeeping, and international terrorism. Peace and Conflict is a large format, full color reference including numerous graphs, tables, maps, and appendices dedicated to the visual presentation of data. Crisp narratives are highlighted with pull-quote extracts that summarize trends and major findings such as the continuing increase in high casualty terrorist acts, the decline in state proliferation as a result of self-determination conflicts, and the likelihood of genocide risk in certain areas.
