데일 카네기(지은이)

인간관계 및 소통의 기술을 연구한 성공철학의 거장. 1888년 미국 미주리주의 가난한 소작농 집안에서 태어났다. 위런즈버그 주립사범대학을 졸업한 뒤 교사, 영업사원, 배우 등 다양한 직업에서 겪은 경험을 바탕으로 1912년부터 말하기 기술을 강연하며 대중에 이름을 알렸다. 이후 전 세계 90여 개국에 자기관리 교육기관 ‘데일 카네기 트레이닝’을 설립해 실용적인 자기계발 기술을 가르쳤고, 전설적인 투자자 워런 버핏이 이를 수료했다는 일화가 유명하다. 1936년 출간된 데일 『데일 카네기 인간관계론』은 다양한 사례를 토대로 ‘친구를 사귀고 사람들에게 영향을 미치는 법’을 정리한 책이다. 출간 3개월 만에 25만 부가 판매되었고, 현재까지도 누적 1억 부 이상, 매년 10만 부 이상 꾸준히 판매되며 ‘성경 다음으로 많이 팔린 책’이라는 명성을 얻었다.
