미셸 푸코(지은이)
1926년에 태어나 1984년에 사망했다. 고등사범학교 출신으로 철학과 심리학, 정신병리학 등에 관심을 두고 공부했으며 《광기의 역사》와 《말과 사물》로 대중들에게 알려지기 시작했다. 젊은 시절에는 스웨덴에서 파리문화원장을 지냈고, 클레르몽페랑 대학과 튀니지의 튀니스대학 등에서 강의하기도 했지만, 1970년 이후부터 죽을 때까지 콜레주드프랑스 교수를 역임하며 ‘사유 체계의 역사’라는 과목을 가르쳤다. 푸코는 다양한 사회적 기구에 대한 비판, 특히 정신의학, 의학, 감옥의 체계에 대한 비판과 성의 역사에 관한 연구를 통해 널리 알려졌다. 권력과 지식의 관계에 대한 이론들과 서양 지식의 역사에 관한 담론을 다루는 그의 사상은 많은 논쟁을 불러일으켰다. 국내에는 대부분의 저서(《정신병과 심리학》, 《광기의 역사》, 《말과 사물》, 《지식의 고고학》, 《담론의 질서》, 《감시와 처벌》, 《성의 역사》 등)와 짧은 글이나 인터뷰 일부(《미셸 푸코: 구조주의와 해석학을 넘어서》, 《미셸 푸코의 문학비평》, 《헤테로토피아》, 《권력과 공간》, 《거대한 낯섦》, 《마네의 회화》, 《감옥의 대안》 등) 그리고 콜레주드 프랑스 강연록 일부(《비판이란 무엇인가?/자기 수양》, 《담론과 진실》, 《자기해석학의 기원》, 《자기 자신에 대한 진실 말하기》, 《광기, 언어, 문학》, 《지식의 의지에 관한 강의》, 《비정상인들》, 《”사회를 보호해야 한다”》, 《안전, 영토, 인구》, 《생명관리정치의 탄생》, 《주체의 해석학》 등)가 번역되어 있다.
