대니얼 골먼(지은이)
감성지능을 대중화한 세계적인 심리학자이자, 세계적으로 영향력 있는 경영 사상가이다. 럿거스대학교 산하 ‘조직 내 감성지능 연구 컨소시엄’의 공동 회장으로 역임 중이다. 또 달라이 라마와 저명한 과학자들이 공동 창립한 마음과 삶 연구소의 이사회 일원이자, 예일대학교 아동연구센터 학업, 사회, 정서 학습 협력체의 공동 창립자이기도 하다. 하버드대학교에서 박사 학위를 받고 겸임교수를 역임했다. 12년 동안 ⟨뉴욕타임스⟩에 뇌와 행동과학에 관한 글을 기고했으며, ⟨뉴욕타임스⟩에 기고한 기사로 퓰리처상 후보에 두 차례 선정되었다. 2008년 ⟨월스트리트저널⟩ 선정 ‘가장 영향력 있는 경영사상가 20인’에 선정된 바 있다. 경영 사상계의 오스카라 불리는 ⟨싱커스50⟩에서 ‘세계적인 경영 사상가 50인’에 선정됐으며, 2017년 ⟨싱커스50⟩ 명예의 전당에 입성했다. 1997년 미국 과학박물관에서 수여하는 브래드포드 워시번상을 수상했으며, 2023년 하버드 그리핀 예술과학대학원 100주년 기념 메달을 수여받았다. 대중에게 과학을 알리는 일로 공로를 인정받아 미국 과학진흥회 특별회원으로 선정되었으며, 미국 심리학회의 평생공로상을 수상했다. 골먼은 EQ가 IQ 이상으로 중요하며, EQ는 학습과 연습으로 성장할 수 있다는 주장으로 기존 패러다임을 바꾼 바 있다. 골먼은 과학적 연구를 근거로 이전까지 외면받았던 감성지능의 중요성을 인식하고, 효과적으로 감성지능을 발휘하라고 강력히 주장한다. 또한 골먼은 리더십과 소통을 원활하게 발휘하도록 돕는 사회지능의 중요성을 밝혀내기도 했다. 주요 저서로 ⟪EQ 감성지능⟫, ⟪사회지능⟫, ⟪포커스⟫, ⟪명상하는 뇌⟫, ⟪내면 해독⟫ 등이 있다.
