심리학자 그리고 작가이자 예술가이다. 1957년부터 1979년까지 다양한 환자(정신분열증 환자까지)를 대상으로 그의 아이디어를 확대시켜가며 신경증에 대한 포괄적 이론을 적용하고자 하였고, 1979년에 이론 전문가로서 글렌든(Glendon) 협회에 동참하였다. 파이어스톤 박사의 저서로는 『The Fantasy Bond: Effects of Psychological Defenses on Interpersonal Relations』(1987), 『Compassionate Child-Rearing』(1990) 그리고 『Fear of Intimacy』(1999) 등이 있다. 또한 그는 부정적인 사고 과정에 대한 연구를 통해 파괴적인 생각과정에 대한 대처법, 자살과 내면의 소리, 보이스 테라피가 묘사된 혁신적인 치료방법론을 개발하였다.
조이스 캐틀릿(지은이)
작가이자 강사로, 로버트 파이어스톤(Robert Firestone) 박사와 함께 십 여 권의 책을 저술하였으며 가장 최근에는 『Fear of Intimacy』를 공동 집필하였다. 1982년 이래로 캐틀렛은 강연과 워크숍 진행자로서 부모와 자녀와의 관계, 자살, 부부관계와 음성 치료 분야에서 글렌든(Glendon) 협회의 37개의 비디오 제작물을 공동 제작하였다. 또한 캐틀렛은 동정적인 양육(Child-Rearing) 부모 교육 프로그램을 개발하고 훈련시키는 강사로 활동하였다.
