데이먼 나이트(지은이)
뛰어난 SF작가이며 열성적으로 활동한 편집자, 비평가다. 무엇보다도 80편 이상의 단편소설을 쓴 단편소설의 대가이자, 30여 년간 소설 창작을 가르친 뛰어난 글쓰기 교사다. 장편소설 14권과 논픽션 3권을 썼으며 수많은 선집을 엮었다. 수많은 상을 받았는데 비평으로 SF의 노벨상이라 불리는 휴고상을 비롯해 <아이 씨 유I See You>로 4대 SF문학상 중 하나로 꼽히는 주피터상을 받았다. 1965년에 미국SF작가협회(현재의 미국SF판타지작가협회로, 권위적인 문학상인 네뷸러상을 주관하고 있다)를 설립했으며, 클라리온SF판타지작가워크숍, 밀포드작가콘퍼런스 등 여러 단체와 글쓰기 프로그램을 창립·운영했다. 2003년에 SF 명예의 전당에 헌액되었다. 현재 미국SF판타지작가협회에서는 SF소설 발전에 공헌한 작가에게 그의 이름을 딴 ‘데이먼 나이트 메모리얼 그랜드마스터상’을 수여하고 있다.
