책소개
Slavoj Zizek, renowned Slovene philosopher and avowed communist, reflects on world-historical events as of late, especially the movements of civil unrest that erupted across the globe in 2011. He argues that "the age of 'revealed communism' is over," but that now more than ever we need social analysis to articulate contemporary collective action with an eye to the kind of engagement with the future such interpretations encourage. This means high-lighting exciting trends in class-organization, political consciousness, cooperation, and struggle. Drawing on Pascal's theories about the experience of miracles and Alain Badiou's theory of the event, Zizek frames various victories as "signs from the future" so the necessity of inner subjective engagement with social struggle becomes clear. He interprets not only events, but examples from popular culture like the "high quality drama" The Wire. Annotation ⓒ2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
