I. 버나드 코헨(엮은이)
하버드 대학교의 빅터 S. 토마스 과학사 명예교수를 역임했으며, 1942년부터 강단에 서서 2003년, 생을 마감할 때까지 학생들을 가르쳤다. 코헨은 과학사 분야의 아버지라고도 불리우는 조지 사튼의 제자로서 미국인 최초로 과학사 박사 학위를 받았다. 미국에서 과학사 연구를 확립한 선구적인 세대 중 한 명으로 하버드 대학교에서 과학사학과를 발전시키는 데 크게 공헌했다. 『뉴턴 혁명(The Newtonian Revolution)』, 『새로운 물리학의 탄생(The Birth of a New Physics)』을 비롯하여 과학사 분야에서 많은 책을 썼다. 1999년 버나드 코헨은 라틴어학자 앤 휘트먼과 함께 라틴어로 쓰인 프린키피아 원전의 완전한 영역본을 출간하였는데, 이는 1729년 모트의 번역 이후 처음으로 이뤄낸 결과였다. 출간 당시 코헨은 시간이 흘러서 자신과 자신이 집필한 책들이 잊히더라도 이 책은 살아남아 학자들과 학생들에게 유용하게 활용되기를 바란다는 소망을 전했다.
