데럴드 윙 수(지은이)
미국 오리건주 포틀랜드에서 중국 이민자 부부의 아들로 태어났다. 어린 시절 동양인이라서 놀림을 받던 기억은 인간 행동에 대한 깊은 관심과 열정으로 이어졌고, 1950~1960년대의 흑인민권운동의 영향이 더해져 그를 다문화 연구 분야의 가장 중요한 학자 중 한 사람으로 만들었다. 오리건대학교에서 상담심리학으로 박사학위를 받았으며, 상담심리학자들에게 아시아계 미국인의 경험을 알리기 위한 활동의 일환으로 동생 스탠리 수와 함께 아시아계 미국인 심리학회(Asian American Psychological Association)를 창립하기도 했다. 현재 컬럼비아대학교 교육대학 상담·임상심리학과 교수로 재직 중이며 다문화 상담과 다양성 훈련 분야에서의 공적으로 소수민족심리학회의 멘토링·리더십상을 비롯한 수많은 상을 받았다. 주요 저서로는 본서 외에 《다문화 상담: 이론과 실제(Counseling the Culturally Diverse: Theory and Practice)》, 《인종차별 극복하기: 해방으로의 여정(Overcoming Our Racism: The Journey to Liberation)》, 《이상행동의 이해(Understanding Abnormal Behavior)》 등이 있다. 그가 쓴 150편 넘는 논문들은 다문화에 관한 논문 중 가장 많이 인용되고 있으며, 특히 2007년에 발표한 논문 “일상에서 일어나는 인종차별 미세공격: 임상 실무에서의 함의(Racial Microaggressions in Everyday Life: Implications for Clinical Practice)”는 6900회 이상 인용되었을 만큼 다문화 연구에 지대한 영향을 끼쳤다.

심리학자이자 현재 웨스턴워싱턴 대학교 정신건강 상담학과장이다. Psychology Counseling Clinic의 이사를 지냈고, 12년 동안 Mental Health Counseling Program의 책임자로 있었다.
