듀크대학의 마이크 크루지제프스키 감독은 말 한마디에도 나름대로의 특별한 의미와 설득력을 담는다. 코트뿐만 아니라 모든 삶의 영역에서 승리자가 되는 비결을 선수들에게 전수하고, 그들의 열정을 불러일으키기 위해 성공의 키워드를 역설해 왔다. 『강력한 팀을 만드는 40가지 원칙』에서는 40가지의 짤막하고 가슴속에 깊이 와 닿는 글을 통해 ‘핵심 키워드’를 중심으로 자신의 경험담을 이야기했다. ‘코치K’로 불리는 마이크 크루지제프스키는 1980년부터 2020년 현재 미국 듀크대학의 남자농구 코치로 재직하면서 듀크대를 다섯 번의 NCAA 챔피언십, 열두 번의 NCAA 4강 진출, 열다섯 번의 ACC 챔피언십, 열두 번의 ACC 정규 시즌 타이틀로 이끌었다. 2008년, 2012년, 2016년 하계 올림픽 국가대표를 지도하여 연속 3회 금메달을 따냈으며 2010년과 2014년에 FIBA 월드컵의 수석코치로 재직하여 2회 모두 금메달을 쟁취했다. 2017년에는 40년을 함께한 듀크대가 1,000번째 승리를 이루어 미국 최초로 1,000승에 도달한 코치가 되었다.
제이미 K. 스파톨라(지은이)
노스캐롤라이나의 더햄에서 태어났으며, 2003년 듀크대 영문학과를 졸업했다. 현재 오클라호마 로튼에서 육군 대위인 남편과 함께 살고 있는 제이미는 크루지제프스키 부부의 막내딸이다.
