2008년부터 2013년까지 재임한 대한민국 제17대 대통령. 1941년 태어나 포항 동지상고 야간부를 마치고 고려대 경영학과를 졸업했다. 대학 재학 중 1964년 한·일 국교 정상화를 반대하는 6·3 민주화운동을 주도하여 6개월간 복역했다. 졸업 후 현대에 입사, 12년 만에 사장에 취임했고, 현대건설 등 8개사의 대표이사와 회장을 겸임했다. 14~15대 국회의원을 역임했고, 서울시장을 지냈다. 2008년 제17대 대한민국 대통령으로 취임했다. 지은 책으로 <신화는 없다>, <절망이라지만 나는 희망이 보인다>, <청계천은 미래로 흐른다>, <온몸으로 부딪쳐라>, <어머니 - 생각만 해도 가슴 저미는 이름> 등이 있다.
