미국공인상담가(LPC), 공인놀이치료지도감독자(RPT-S) 미국 University of North Texas 놀이치료센터의 설립자이자 상담·발달·고등교육과의 명예교수이며, 놀이치료학회의 명예·지도교수다. 전 세계적으로 아동중심 놀이치료의 대가이며 Virginia Axline(미국 최초의 놀이치료자이며 <딥스>의 저자) 상을 수상하였다. 노스텍사스 대학교 석좌교수로서 2005년 은퇴 후에도 자신을 초청하는 곳이면 한국, 중국, 캐나다, 유럽, 아프리카, 호주 등 세계 어느 곳이든지 기꺼이 날아가서 아동중심 놀이치료와 부모-자녀 관계치료에 대한 특강을 하고 있다. 그리고 미국 각 주를 다니면서 아동중심 놀이치료/부모-자녀 관계치료 특강을 하고 있으며, 가장 인기 있는 기조연설을 하는 학자로 알려져 있다. 지난 1997년 한국을 방문하여 숙명여자대학교에서 부모-자녀 놀이치료 워크숍을 실시한 바 있다.
